Find Herbert and start his requests
After the opening retreat, Herbert waits at the Crossroads east of your house. Show him the Burial Certificate from your first burial for Certificate, Please; this starts Grave Expectations. After the first battle against the zombies, he runs the defence from the Barracks.
For Grave Expectations, raise graveyard quality to 10 and report back to Herbert.
Bring him the first certificate
- After the retreat from town, follow Herbert’s request to bury the dead at the abandoned Inquisitor base and bring back the burial certificates.
- Take a Burial Certificate from your first burial to Herbert at the Crossroads, east of your house, and show it to him for Certificate, Please.
- He only checks the certificate, so you keep it and can sell it later. Completing the quest opens the village, starts regular corpse deliveries from the donkey, adds 10 town quality and 10 reputation with Herbert, and starts Grave Expectations.
Reach the graveyard quality target
Herbert asks for graveyard quality 10. An early grave can score at most 3 with a Wooden Cross I worth 2 and a Wooden Fence I worth 1 from Wooden Gravestones I. The body’s white skulls cap that score, while red skulls reduce it.
Aim for at least four good graves, or three good graves plus an Exterior Bench I worth 3 quality. Remove Fat and Blood from each body before burial because each adds a red skull. Once the graveyard reaches 10 quality, tell Herbert; nothing is spent, and he gives another 10 reputation.
Certificate and quality checks
- Does Herbert take the Burial Certificate?
- No. Herbert looks at the certificate for Certificate, Please, but you keep it and can sell it later.
- What completes Grave Expectations?
- Raise graveyard quality to 10 and tell Herbert. The request spends nothing and awards another 10 reputation with him.
